Rangoli has been drawn for more than five thousand years as an act of prayer. To seek blessings, to invite something greater. In this work, the sand is offered to something that interprets it differently. SNDBOX is an interactive installation where participants draw forms in colored sand. A machine vision system assigns a label to the form, and generates an image displayed on a monitor in real time. Whether participants tried to follow the output or resist it, their actions were shaped by what the system had generated.
